The Challenge

The existing HiBid registration flow had grown complex over time — fragmented by legacy logic and inconsistent UI patterns. New users frequently dropped off during payment verification, and auctioneers reported confusion around delivery options and agreement terms.

We set out to reimagine registration from the ground up — creating a modern, accessible experience that would inspire confidence, reduce friction, and scale across HiBid’s growing bidder base.

Before → After Comparison

  • Old flow: fragmented steps, unclear validation, non-responsive layout
  • New flow: unified registration modal with responsive design and clear verification states

The Solution

The redesigned registration experience introduced:

  • Step-based progression that surfaces one decision at a time
  • Contextual validation and inline feedback to prevent submission errors
  • A responsive, built on the custom HiBid Bootstrap theme
  • Integrated Payment Identity Verification (PIV) flow with live status updates
  • Consistent component patterns for inputs, modals, and terms acknowledgments

All elements were designed as components within the HiBid Design System — ensuring that future flows (like seller onboarding or profile updates) could reuse the same patterns for a unified user experience.

The Impact

Two weeks after launch, the new registration flow demonstrated a 40% lift in actual first-time bidders compared to the same period in 2024.

This improvement validated the value of an evidence-based UX process — combining accessibility, trust-centered design, and consistent visual language. The project became a model for how UX and engineering collaboration can directly impact business growth.

Metrics:

  • +40% increase in First-Time Bidders
  • Reduced user drop-off during payment verification
  • Improved completion rate across both desktop and mobile

My Role

As Lead Product Designer, I partnered closely with the Product Manager to define the new registration flow and overall UX strategy. Together, we mapped out the user journey, identified pain points through behavioral analytics, and prioritized usability improvements that would have measurable business impact.

I was responsible for:

  • Designing the end-to-end registration flow in Figma using modular, responsive components
  • Leading design reviews and collaborating with engineering on interaction patterns and validation logic
  • Ensuring full WCAG 2.2 accessibility compliance and semantic markup alignment
  • Partnering with developers to implement design within the custom Bootstrap-based HiBid theme, connected to the shared design token system
  • Partnering with QA to test real-world scenarios and refine error handling and microcopy for clarity and trust

Looking Ahead

The registration redesign laid the foundation for future improvements to the HiBid Profile Service — including saved verification methods, unified bidder profiles, and cross-device session continuity. These next steps build upon the same UX principles of transparency, efficiency, and trust.
